Booster pump is a kind of equipment designed to even out the water pressure in situations where the flow of water greatly varied. This pump is a necessity for water management systems and in wide range of applications both in private and public settings. The booster pump is installed to where the water supply and the structure are connected.

Different applications require the use of booster pumps.

A booster pump with multiple stages is used to effectively pull up the water into the irrigation system for water delivery.
Most people utilize booster pumps for different irrigation systems such as in turf irrigation.
Pumps are usually utilized for sprinkler systems.
Pumps change the direction of the flowing water by altering the water pressure.

However, the best booster pump doesn’t depend on the type of application. It rests on the designs of the sprinkler system.

Reasons for Low Water Pressure

In the past, water pressure had never been a problem for any water application. However, these days, it is becoming more and more prevalent as the water pressure is greatly decreasing.

One obvious reason for this is that a lot of households and businesses are using the same water pipe lines and the distribution gets very minimal to areas that do not have pumps to push the water into their homes or buildings.

Another reason for low water pressure is the aging of pipes being used in the water distribution. There could be mineral buildups in old plumbing that decrease the diameter of pipes where water passes through leading to low flow rates.

The best method to resolve the issue is the use of booster pumps which could increase the pressure of water that goes into an intended application.

In areas with higher elevation, booster pump is also an advantage because it can easily climb up and goes into the water outlets. This can assure adequate supply of water for a particular purpose.

The Need for Booster Pumps in Golf Course Application

Golf courses are vast lands of turf used as playing area for golf. The turf needs to remain healthy and green to inspire golf players. Proper irrigation is what makes the golf course turf stay green and alive. Because golf courses are usually wide with several acres of land, proper irrigation system and irrigation pump are needed.

Various types of sprinkler irrigation systems are often used in watering needs of golf courses and a strong pressure is needed to spray the water in high and long distances to irrigate every corner of the turf. To do this, it is a must to have a booster pump.

During the seasons when there is an adequate supply of water, golf courses depend on municipal utilities for the irrigation needs of their turfs. However, during times of drought some golf courses source their own supply from their back up irrigation system that takes water either from a well or from nearby rivers or from their own reservoir. To have an even distribution, the system requires a booster pump to increase the water pressure and effectively irrigate all parts of the turf.

Determining the Watering Needs

In determining the different options for booster pumps, you should also consider your watering needs.

For instance, if you are going to use the pump to support the turf irrigation, you should make sure that the equipment is installed near the main irrigation system. As much as possible, avoid installing the pumps in location where you cannot easily access it. You may encounter problems in case a repair is needed.

The applications in turf irrigation can greatly vary. Water usually comes from rivers, ponds, wells, building downspouts, storm drains, and even from water treatment plants. Water coming from these sources is used to irrigate crops, municipal parks, commercial properties, residential subdivisions, and golf courses.

Connor Powers

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Connor Powers has a bit of Happy Gilmore in him as he winds up to attack a golf ball with his driver, though he doesn’t shoot the kind of low scores Adam Sandler’s character did in the movie.

Kind of hard to make a lot of birdies when half the time you have no idea where the ball is going.

“I lose a bunch of balls off the tee,” Powers said. “Accuracy is not the main goal for me when I pick up a club.”

What is the goal for the former minor league baseball player is hitting the ball a long way, a very long way. He can pound it over 400 yards, and sometimes the balls even stay in the fairway by the time they’re done rolling.

On Tuesday, he could earn a cool $250,000 if he can be the biggest of the big hitters in the winner-take-all RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.

“It’s pretty sweet that there’s an opportunity to make money doing this,” said Powers, a former Mississippi State first baseman who washed out in the minors after hitting 20 homers in three seasons in the San Diego Padres’ system. “But if it was just 500 bucks I’d still be doing it. It’s just so much fun to be out there and compete, especially after ending my baseball career. That’s really what it is about for me.”

Powers and seven others who qualified last month in Mesquite, Nevada, will go head-to-head in the championship final at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. Six balls each, with the winners advancing to the next round until only one long driver is still standing.

The 26-year-old Powers qualified for the finals by hitting a drive 402 yards, though that wasn’t enough to make him the favorite among the eight players left. That would probably be Joe Miller, the 2010 world champion and 2013 runner-up from London who competes on the Long Drivers European Tour and has a streak of 13 straight wins.

Or it could be Jamie Sadlowski, the 2008 and 2009 world champion from Canada who weighs just 165 pounds but had the longest qualifying drive of 409 yards in Mesquite.

“They are all different sizes and ages and have different backgrounds,” said Art Sellinger, the former two-time world champion who runs Long Drivers of America. “The one thing they do have in common is they’re focused on how fast they can swing a golf club and how square they can get at impact.”

Powers barely played golf at all before stumbling onto the long driving scene, though several of the finalists are scratch handicap players or better. Powers took up long driving at the urging of former Mississippi State teammate Jeff Flagg, who is also in the finals.

Powers plays more now and is a 15-handicap, no better than most weekend golfers. But his ball striking skills – at least with the driver – are world class.

“I still think you have to be a legitimate striker of the ball,” said Sellinger, a pioneer of the long driving ranks. “Whenever I’m trying to educate amateurs I tell them they’re ball strikers. I didn’t say they know how to shoot 65 for a living.”

For Powers, it’s a lot like stepping up to the plate in baseball, complete with Golf Channel televising it live.

“It’s basically home run derby in golf,” he said. “And I’ve always loved home run derby in baseball.”

While the Race to Dubai is heating up on the European Tour, Miguel Angel Jimenez was ice cold at the BMW Masters. Golf’s ‘Most Interesting Man’ capped off his 19-over performance that included rounds of 77-70-72-88 by hitting four balls in the water and carding a 9-over 13 on the par-4 9th, his final hole. Because, well, why not?

Jimenez was not alone in making big numbers at the BMW Masters. China’s Tianyi Wu ended the event 32 over par and only broke 80 once (76-83-80-81). Moral of the story: Golf is hard.

Inbee Park and Stacy Lewis have been battling for the LPGA’s No. 1 ranking, but they’ve rarely gone head-to-head on the course.

That will change on Sunday.

World No. 1 Park shot a 3-under 69 Saturday to finish with a four-shot lead at the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship over No. 2 Lewis and No. 6 Shanshan Feng. The trio will be grouped together for the final round.

Lewis started the day nine shots behind Park, but she birdied four of the final five holes to fire an 8-under 64 in blustery conditions at the Miramar Golf and Country Club.

“I knew I needed some help with the weather to get a little bit closer,” Lewis told reporters after her round.

Lewis loves playing in the wind, and she’ll likely get her wish for the final round as gusty weather is expected again.

Lewis and Feng will need all the help they can get if they want to catch Park. She took back the No. 1 ranking from Lewis this week and shows no signs of giving it back.

Park made two sloppy bogeys on Nos. 8 and 9, but bounced back with a birdie on No. 9 and a chip-in eagle on the par-5 12th. She hasn’t won since the Wegmans LPGA in August, but the recently-married Park hasn’t finished outside the top 10 in her last four events.

Feng has also been playing well this year and won in Malaysia in early October. She just missed an eagle putt on 18 Saturday to remain in a tie for second with Lewis.

The trio have separated themselves from the field as Lewis and Feng are four clear of Azahara Munoz.

Park also has a chance for another important record on Sunday. She needs to shoot a 7-under 65 in the final round to break Annika Sorenstam’s all-time scoring record of 27 under par set at the 2001 Standard Register Ping.

But with Lewis and Feng playing right beside her, Park will have enough to worry about in the final round.
